In 2003, a bunch of theater types exchanged emails about the possibility of working together. The result: Artists’ Ensemble Theater, founded in 2004, committed to ensemble-driven theater that challenges both actors and audiences.
AE is an Equity professional theater. We began as nomads, but by our second season we had formed a partnership with Rockford University. Since then, AE has performed in the beautiful Clark Arts Center on the campus of Rockford University in northern Illinois.
AE primarily produces plays that are new to the region and, in five cases, world premieres. The titles of AE plays may not always (or even often) be familiar, but AE audiences have doubled in size and are enthusiastic and engaged.
Small stage, big ideas, adventurous theater: at AE, we build character(s).
