    Jewish Ensemble Theatre

    Description

The Jewish Ensemble Theatre is a professional Equity theater based in West Bloomfield. Founded in 1989 by Evelyn Orbach with a group of prestigious theater and community leaders, JET was established with the mission “to produce theater of the highest professional standards, and to provide a stage for the exploration of ideas that confront issues of humanity and community from a Jewish perspective. The Jewish Ensemble Theatre serves as a force for the Jewish continuity, a platform for new voices, and a bridge of understanding to the general community.”

JET produces on its main stage both award-winning plays and plays making their world premiere or their pre-Broadway debut. In addition, JET’s Youth Education Services – JET/YES – is an educational outreach initiative developed for school-age children that has reached over 500,000 youngsters.

JET has been regularly reviewed by the metropolitan press since its first production and frequently singled out for accolades by them. In 2002, JET won Best Overall Season when it produced “Romeo and Juliet” (with Arab Montagues and Jewish Capulets) and “The Laramie Project.” JET’s actors and other artists and directors have frequently won top awards, including Wilde Awards from EncoreMichigan.

JET performs in the Aaron DeRoy Theatre on the campus of the Jewish Community Center.
