DEPOT THEATRE ANNOUNCES ITS 2019 MAIN STAGE SEASON LINEUP

HEAVENLY MIX OF MUSIC AND COMEDY HEADLINE DEPOT THEATRE’s 41st SEASON

Westport, N.Y. —The Depot Theatre in Westport on Lake Champlain is pleased to announce its highly entertaining 2019 main stage season, which includes a revue of best-known musicals, a heavenly, hilarious play and a fan favorite musical featuring a 50s-era boy band.

The lineup is the first chosen by the Depot’s new Producing Artistic Director, Kenney Green. “I’ve been drawn to these shows for my inaugural season based on one word and one word alone…HUMANITY,” said Green. “Most theatre connects us through our common bond as simple folk navigating our way through life. These three shows make that connection through extreme comedy, high energy and heart-warming storytelling. I’m certain that our audiences will enjoy quite a ride this summer!”

The season opens with THE WORLD GOES ‘ROUND with performances from June 29 – July 14, with a $20 Preview on June 28. This musical review is a clever collage from the songbook of the multi-Tony award-winning team of John Kander and Fred Ebb. The songs are pulled from their best-known musicals, Cabaret and Chicago, and lesser remembered ones such as The Actand Woman of the Year, as well as the films New York, New York and Funny Lady.

The show features five artists singing unforgettable gems, including “Mr. Cellophane,” “My Coloring Book,” “All That Jazz,” “Kiss of the Spider Woman,” “Money, Money,” “Maybe This Time,” “Cabaret” and “New York, New York,” seamlessly interwoven into a passionate, harmonious, up-tempo evening of musical theatre.

The season ramps up with the hilarious play AN ACT OF GOD, in which after many millennia, God (assisted by devoted angels) will reveal the mysteries of the Bible and answer some of the greatest existential questions that plague mankind.

Filled with maximum humor and earthy reality, AN ACT OF GOD is based on a satirical book and the Twitter account of David Javerbaum, who has written for some of today’s hottest comedians, including Jon Stewart.  Performances will be July 20 – August 4, with a $20 Preview on July 19.

A delightful musical revue set in the 50s, FOREVER PLAID rounds out the season, telling the tale of four childhood friends who, after paying their dues performing at grocery store grand openings have an opportunity to do a real gig.

Previously performed at the Depot in 1996, the popular musical includes a long list of 50s favorites in tight harmony, including: “Three Coins in the Fountain”; “Undecided”; “Gotta Be This or That”; “Moments to Remember”; “Crazy ‘Bout Ya, Baby”; “No, Not Much”; “Sixteen Tons”; “Chain Gang”; “Perfidia”; “Cry”; “Heart and Soul”; “Lady of Spain”; “Scotland the Brave”; “Shangri-La”; “Rags to Riches”; and “Love is a Many-Splendored Thing”. Performances will be from August 10-25, with a $20 Preview on August 9.

Auditions will be held regionally and in New York City in the spring. Group and single tickets will go on sale in late spring, and season subscriptions will be available for sale online in February. More details, additional events and news updates can be found online at depottheatre.org.
