Bellport, NY — March 2, 2026 — The Gateway has unveiled its highly anticipated 77th season, presenting a dynamic lineup of beloved Broadway classics, iconic music, and powerful true stories that celebrate resilience, connection, and the enduring magic of live theatre.
Running from May 2026 through April 2027, the season will feature six exceptional productions that promise to captivate audiences with unforgettable music, compelling characters, and stories that linger long after the curtain falls. In an era when the world can feel uncertain, The Gateway remains committed to its longstanding mission: bringing people together through the shared experience of storytelling.
“There are years when the ground seems to shift beneath our feet,” said Executive Artistic Director Paul Allan. “Jobs change, families evolve, and even the places we count on for escape feel more precious than ever. At The Gateway, the answer has always been the same—we gather. We gather in the dark, shoulder to shoulder, listening to stories of people pushed to their limits and watching what they choose to do next.”
The 2026–2027 season explores characters standing at the edge of transformation—individuals who find love in unexpected places, create music that shapes generations, and discover courage when compassion is needed most.
The season opens with West Side Story (May 8 – May 31, 2026), the legendary musical that reimagines Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet against the backdrop of rival New York City gangs. With its electrifying choreography and unforgettable score, the timeless story of Tony and Maria remains as moving today as it was at its premiere.
Next, Ain’t Too Proud: The Life and Times of The Temptations (June 19 – July 19, 2026) traces the extraordinary journey of the Motown group whose music defined a generation. Packed with iconic hits and signature choreography, the musical reveals the triumphs, struggles, and enduring legacy of The Temptations.
In August, the Tony Award–winning Come From Away (August 7 – September 6, 2026) tells the remarkable true story of a small Newfoundland town that welcomed thousands of stranded travelers following the events of September 11, 2001. Filled with heart and humanity, the production celebrates the extraordinary kindness that emerges in moments of crisis.
The holiday season brings the festive energy of Million Dollar Quartet Christmas (November 27, 2026 – January 3, 2027). Inspired by the legendary Sun Records recording session that united Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins, this spirited musical blends classic rock and roll with seasonal cheer.
The new year begins with Funny Girl (January 22 – February 21, 2027), the story of the incomparable Fanny Brice. Rising from New York’s Lower East Side to the glittering stage of the Ziegfeld Follies, Brice’s journey is one of humor, ambition, and a voice that refused to be ignored.
Closing the season is Harry Chapin: I Wanna Learn a Love Song – A New Musical (March 12 – April 4, 2027). This world-premiere production explores the life of the beloved singer-songwriter behind “Cat’s in the Cradle,” highlighting his music, activism, and tireless fight against hunger.
Together, these productions form a season centered on connection. Each story reveals characters confronting uncertainty and choosing courage, compassion, and hope.
