LOUISVILLE, KY — Actors Theatre of Louisville has announced its 2026–2027 season, bringing a mix of mystery, comedy, imaginative puppetry, holiday tradition and Pulitzer Prize-winning drama to its stages.
The new season will feature four mainstage productions along with the return of the Storytelling Revolution Festival, which will take over the theatre’s Main Street Complex in April 2027.
Opening the season is Ken Ludwig’s Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery, a fast-paced and comedic take on Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic The Hound of the Baskervilles. Directed by Actors Theatre Artistic Director Amelia Acosta Powell, the production follows Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson as they investigate a mysterious family curse and the legendary hound haunting the English moors. Adding to the theatrical fun, five actors take on dozens of characters as the mystery unfolds.
For the Halloween season, the Obie Award-winning company Wakka Wakka returns to Louisville with Dead as a Dodo. Combining puppetry, music, humor and elaborate visual effects, the production takes audiences into an imaginative underworld where two unlikely skeleton friends — a dodo and a boy — become caught in a struggle between existence and extinction.
The holidays will bring the return of A Christmas Carol. Charles Dickens’ classic is presented in an adaptation by Lavina Jadhwani and co-directed by Amelia Acosta Powell and Emily Tarquin. Following a sold-out production last season, Ebenezer Scrooge once again encounters the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future on a journey that transforms his understanding of generosity, community and second chances.
The season continues in February with Eboni Booth’s Primary Trust, winner of the 2024 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Directed by Jamil Jude, the play centers on Kenneth, a quiet man whose comfortable routine consists of working at a small-town bookstore and enjoying mai tais at his local tiki bar. When Kenneth unexpectedly loses his job, he is forced into an unfamiliar world of possibilities. The warm and humorous play explores friendship, kindness and the importance of human connection.
Actors Theatre will conclude its announced season programming with the return of the Storytelling Revolution Festival, running April 1–11, 2027. Now in its second year, the festival brings artists and audiences together throughout the Actors Theatre Main Street Complex for new work and innovative approaches to live storytelling.
Actors Theatre of Louisville will also offer Theatre for the Very Young programming, public learning opportunities and summer theatre camps as part of its 2026–2027 programming.
